When it comes to addiction related to blood sugar imbalance, it looks like we may spend a few days learning more and de-stressing what we can.
This is not a minor issue. It is everywhere. The CDC says 40.1 million Americans have diabetes, and 115.2 million adults — more than 2 in 5 — have prediabetes, with 8 in 10 not even knowing it. And this is where it stops being just about dessert, cravings, or a 3:00 p.m. crash. Blood sugar trouble is tied to heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, nerve damage, and vision loss, and people with diabetes are about twice as likely to have heart disease or stroke.
Something else to think about: has anybody besides me been wondering why there seems to be so much irrational behavior out there? I am not saying blood sugar explains everything, obviously. But brain circuitry can suffer when blood sugar is unstable. Low blood sugar can impair judgment, focus, and self-control. High blood sugar over time can damage blood vessels in the brain and contribute to memory problems, learning difficulties, stroke risk, and even dementia. Insulin matters here too; it helps regulate signaling in brain pathways tied to mood, behavior, appetite, and reward.
In other words, this is not just about sweets. It is about signal quality.
And we need healthy, functional human beings everywhere — especially in the health care professions we depend on most. There is a very long list of health issues linked to blood sugar instability. For the group, today’s scan — again, subtle energy, not the physical body — pointed to circulatory dysfunction and chronic kidney disease.

Tomorrow we’ll take a closer look at some of the stories we tell ourselves, the wounds we may be trying to soothe, and maybe even a few archetypes that may be wrapped up in all this.
And a word to some of those TikTokers out there making videos that wreck their professions and sometimes even their lives…
Maybe it’s time to cut back on the cookies.
