A few years ago my daughter and I were talking about one of her friends whose mother had developed Alzheimer’s.
She said, “Mom, if you ever get it, I’ll take care of you.”
I replied, “Absolutely not. It would ruin your life.”
Her answer?
“You won’t know.”
We still laugh about that, but after reading up on what SCREENS could be doing to our BRAINS, I got to thinking:
If a person’s brain is changing, would they even know?
Because, seriously, there’s some crazy behavior out there—and it seems like some of it is being recognized as perfectly normal by an alarming number of people.
And there IS legitimate science giving us reason to pay attention.
Research has associated heavier or poorly regulated screen use—particularly in children and adolescents—with differences in brain structure and connectivity, attention, executive function, language development, sleep, and emotional regulation.
That does not mean every person using a screen is developing “brain damage,”
But maybe we should pay attention.
The concern may be especially important for younger generations who have never known life without smartphones, tablets, and computers.
Brain damage is starting to occur in children as young as 2.
And we are ALL probably spending more time on computers and cell phones than is beneficial for our BRAINS.
In my case, I’m on the computer from first thing in the morning until I go to bed.
So based on what I’ve learned, it’s time for a regular DIGITAL DETOX.
From now on I’m going to give myself Saturday afternoons through Sunday mornings away from the computer and phone.
We’ll see how it goes.
And I’m hoping a few of you will consider a detox, too.
As far as our work today—
Physical — LIVER RELATED STRESS
Mental — PESSIMISM
Emotional — PRESSURED
Spiritual — NEED FOR SAFETY
Digital Stress — NOT DETERMINED
Root and Sacral chakras started out a little “off”—balanced now.
And something to think about:
Dr. Morter says any challenge- even this screen-related situation- is, ultimately, for our benefit.
Maybe we’ll start doing a little more reading- gardening-cooking- walking
Even be with REAL PEOPLE once in a while.
Maybe we’ll remember there is an entire world available to us that doesn’t require a password, charger, or Wi-Fi connection.
Because otherwise…
All we may have to look forward to is getting dumber.
P. S. If I do anything crazy like getting involved romantically with an AI partner…
Let me know.
